Beetlejuice Wiki

Delores is the leader of a soul-absorbing death cult who married Beetlejuice, whom she poisoned, but, in revenge, he killed her with an ax to her face. Turned into a ghost, Delores sought revenge against her ex-husband. She is the secondary antagonist of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

History[]

Past[]

During the time of the Black Death, Delores was a cult leader seeking the immortality that was required for the life of a husband and his soul. Then, she encountered the "humble" grave robber, Beetlejuice, whom she married, officiating at their marriage by drinking each other's blood, biting off the heads of two chickens and sacrificing a goat.

On their wedding night, Delores and Beetlejuice had sexual relations. After that, Delores poisoned her husband with a drink, revealing her intentions. However, as a wedding gift, Beetlejuice took an ax and chopped Delores into pieces, killing her.

Beetlejuice[]

During his first failed attempt at a forced marriage with Lydia Deetz, Beetlejuice revealed he had been married before, as he swore he would only get married once. He then removed the ring from a corpse finger and put it on Lydia, stating that "she meant nothing to him". This was the first clue to Delores' existence.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice[]

In the Neitherworld, Delores' dismembered pieces are revived when a janitor causes an electrical accident nearby. She reassembles herself with the help of an industrial stapler and devours the janitor’s soul when he fails to tell her where Beetlejuice is.

She then sucks the soul of a laundromat employee to steal a wedding dress, which she turns black. Wolf deduces she is targeting Beetlejuice to force him to remarry her so she can take his soul. When he learns of her return, Beetlejuice hides in his office and plans to use his employee, Bob, as bait via disguising the Shrinker as himself.

Delores wanders around the Netherworld and reaches his office, though it’s empty. She is delighted to find his picture on his desk but angrily smashes the picture of Lydia before resuming her search. She finds Bob in an interrogation room and demands to know where Beetlejuice is. When he refuses to say, she sucks his soul, killing him.

She enters the living world and interrupts his wedding to Lydia, horrifying him and he tries rejecting her to no avail. He uses Rory as bait and this allows Astrid to summon a Sandworm which devours Delores and Rory.

What exactly happens to Delores after this is currently unknown since Beetlejuice was previously eaten by a Sandworm and was just sent to the Neitherworld waiting room. It can be assumed something similar happened to Delores after she was eaten as Sandworms can't end a ghost's existence, just sending them away. Due to this, its heavily implied Delores could come back once again for revenge.

Physical Description[]

Delores is a tall, Italian woman who has long black hair, brown eyes, and wears a black wedding dress. She was once a plague doctor, indicated by her mask early in the film. As a result of her manually re-piecing herself together, she has a large series of scars over her entire body, the most prominent of which runs the center of her face. Her entire body is held together with heavy duty staples from an industrial Stanley stapler. Evidently, her parts are capable of operating independently of themselves while separated from her, as seen when she reassembles herself. She has reddish-brown lips and semi-blue gray skin, giving her an appearance very much like Emily The Corpse Bride. Like Betelgeuse, Delores has dark circles around her eyes, though not as drastic in appearance as him, as hers are makeup whereas his are the result of his poisoning.

Personality[]

Delores' personality is like an alluring succubus in death, and that of a ruthless and cruel psychopath in life. Once her spirit awakens in the Neitherworld, she steals the souls of anyone who stands in her path on the way to finding her ex. She’s shown to not care about anyone else other than herself as even when she was alive she poisoned her own husband, even sadistically smiling at his face. She doesn't give a choice to her victims as she kills them anyway before they can even answer.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Dark Magic
  • Soul Absorbtion
  • Poison Craft

Trivia[]

  • Although she’s presented as the main antagonist at first, she’s just a decoy to hide the real main antagonist.
  • She technically appears in the original film, but only her severed finger, and she herself is mentioned in passing without name as Betelgeuse says to Lydia, "I'm telling you, honey, she meant nothing to me. Nothing at all."
