Home Video Releases of Beetlejuice (movie), covering all physical media releases of the first movie.

Main Releases[]

Note, all versions used to describe the release are the USA versions unless otherwise said.

1988 VHS[]

  • 1988 Original VHS: Standard version of the movie.

1988 LaserDisc[]

  • 1988 Original LaserDisc: Standard version of the movie.

1997 DVD Snap Case[]

This release features a black snap case with paperboard flap with the cover and the back being a white background. This version would be retired in 2008 for the 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition, which was in a keep case. This release has a double sided disc that has on one side the standard version (4:3 ratio) and a widescreen version (16:9 ratio). Note, unlike the releases in 1998 for VHS and LaserDisc, neither the standard or widescreen version were edited.

The notable extra to this release is the standard version, which instead of simply cropping the right and left sides also expands footage area at the top and bottom. This means some things can be seen at the top and bottom that widescreen releases don't see.

This LaserDisc edited version of the movie removes the scene where after Beetlejuice kicks down the tree in the model, he says the F word and makes a yanking motion.

2008 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition[]

"20th Anniversary Edition" gets rid of the black snap case in favor of a keep case. The cover says at the top "20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition", while the back has a black background and a enlarged image of Beetlejuice next to his tombstone. This version removes the standard version (4:3 ratio), adds printed image on one side if disc, and adds three Beetlejuice (animated series) episodes.

2020 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray[]

Note, we're only noting features of the 4K disc and packaging. Other than the Blu-Ray design (in black with Sandworm head appearing), it should have the exactly same special features and aspects as the stand alone Blu-Ray release.
Plain vanilla release of 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray packaging features on the front Beetlejuice sitting on his tombstone with the Maitlands on the left and a Sandworm and the Maitland's house on the right. This is the first time a Plain Beetlejuice format release didn't include the poster illustration. The back has a mostly black background and features tux dressed Beetlejuice and schoolgirl wear Lydia on Maitland's stairs on the first floor.
